About Me
- Diallo Dixon
- I am a Jamaican photographer who captures a wide variety of subjects through his viewfinder. As my roots lie in black & white film work, I tend to lean towards b&w for digital work. My non-commissioned work tend to lean towards fine art or wall art works, however im also available for commissioned work such as weddings, product photography and more. My official portfolio can be viewed at www.diallodixonphotography.com
Wall Art Decor
I have been doing this photography thing for a long time now, from the days of processing black & white film to today's digital technology, and have quite a collection of photographs taken over the years. So I figured what better way to start a newsletter series than to share with you samples of my work that spans a number of years, and at the same time maybe give you a few decorative ideas for your home i.e. Wall Art Decor.
So pretty much I tried to visualize what some of my photos might look like printed on canvas gallery wraps, standout mounts or framed. I then took it a step further and displayed them on sample rooms taken from FreePhotosBank.com. Hopefully this helps to visualize what they may look like in your home.
There are different ways of mounting these photos:
Standout mounts give a contemporary look to unframed prints. With stand out mounts prints are mounted on light-weight material that is ready to hang
Traditional framing options are also available.

Kingston Bridal Week 2012
Kingston Bridal Week was the follow up to the Wyndham Wedding Spectacular. I was invited once again to cover this event. Needless to say it was bigger than the last one in that this event involved a full week of activities. They definitely went bigger and bolder. I covered the last two days which was the showcase by all wedding vendors i.e. wedding planners, decor, cakes, make up artists, photographers, music, etc etc. You can view the full set of photos here.

Shooting for shooting sake
It has been a fairly active past couple of weeks in terms of photo jobs. I had 3 major jobs in May alone, in fact had 3 photo sessions 3 days in a row (that was a killer!). However in the past year or so ive done very little personal projects. Ive been trying to figure out what aspect of photography I love the most, and hence what it is that I "should" be shooting. Somewhere along the line I stopped shooting what I "wanted" to, and instead been trying to figure out what I "should" be shooting. Instead I ended up not shooting altogether lol. So on Sunday I stopped thinking so much about what I should be shooting and just grabbed my camera and looked for something to shoot. There were some poinsettias at the front of my house that we've had for a months, and unfortunately did not survive the hot summer sun. I thought the dried leaves made for an interesting subject. To be honest im kinda tired/bored of shooting anything nature-related but I went ahead anyway, and ended up feeling good about it. The below is one from the set:
Mr and Mrs Blacke
The makers of "Last Call" presents their theatre production for 2012 called "Mr and Mrs Blacke". I was also afforded the opportunity of once again working with this team for their upcoming show. I must say that im very impressed with the way they are working to put this show together in terms of the preparations, the ideas, the marketing, everything. They are really going all out to come with something different in the theatre scene in Jamaica and they will be successful. In addition, being a part of this project has challenged me photographically just as it did last year for "Last Call" so im definitely grateful for the opportunity.
I will write about the shoots for this show in upcoming blogs, but for now you can visit their facebook page http://www.facebook.com/eightsevensix or their website www.eightsevensix.com.
To show how big they are going, see this photo of a billboard for the show on Old Hope Road:

Denver D album launch: Musically Disturbed
A few things about Denver D, taken from http://www.denverd.com:
"Following in the footsteps of many great musicians who came out of the famous Alpha Boys’ School in Jamaica, Denver D is not just knocking, but beating on the global door. Trained in multiple instruments at the school, he has used his talent to become a Master Percussionist. Denver’s training has manifested a beautiful multi-textured spectrum of his musical genius."
"This young musician has already toured half the world with Jimmy Cliff, Luciano, and others, gaining much experience and knowledge of global audiences, appearing in a number of international festivals such as Rotodam, Reggae Sumfest and Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, to name a few. He has also performed on albums for Grammy winners Stephen and Damian Marley, and for many other artistes as well."
"...his music has been described as ‘worldbeat’ with a reggae fusion, incorporating reggae, jazz, pop, R&B and various musical genres to create a unique synthesis.“Musically Disturbed” is best described as a potpourri of easy listening, dance grooves & rhythmic ballads, to lift the spirit and soothe the soul"
I hope to make this show and will be walking with my camera. In the meantime here are a few photos from a show at Red Bones last year.
